When I taste a Cabernet Franc, usually I think about the Basque Country. The first reason is that Cabernet Franc’s origins likely lie in the Basque region of France, but the main reason is because passing the Basque region by foot you will discover a spectacular, yet hard to pass region, were you can read everywhere “this is not France or Spain this is Basque Country”. Cabernet Franc is the same, a very robust and strong variety, a proud one, with a lot of personality adding a special touch in Bordeaux blends. It’s either love it or hate it with this variety there is no line in between. It’s the parent grape of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, but they didn’t inherit his specific flavors of bell pepper.
Perfect Simplu, Cabernet Franc, 2018 is a good example of this variety's characteristics and profile. An intense red color wine in the glass, with a nice balance between cherry, strawberry and dried herbs flavors. The bell pepper is a present but not a disturbing aroma, nicely integrated into the bouquet of flavors. There is a good taste balance between acidity and the medium-high body, with moderate tannins and a taste
of sour cherry, dried tomatoes, sweet pepper and dried mint leaves. The taste will burst refreshingly through your palate and leave you with a fine tobacco touch.
